Yeah, I foresee a good deal of retconning going on.

"I am the bone of my sword."

I finally got around to watching the episode.

The whole business with Vegeta and the family trip was enjoyably entertaining especially Vegeta's seriousness throughout the entire thing. It's fun seeing the guy in a relatively normal environment from time to time and not just in training or battle.

At this point I'm under the assumption that Super is taking more from the anime than the actual manga. You've got Gregory in there, you've got these scenes from the anime and speaking of which again. Why don't you just re-animate the whole scene with Vegeta and Trunks training instead of just pulling out some Kai scene. It looks awful because the animation contrasts so hard with each other.

You have that Super animation and then Kai animation which is essentially nothing more than the 90s animation with quality improvement.

Also its not like I had much focus with the original Japanese voices before but good lord Kaio-Sama's voice actor was....unbearable in this episode. I don't mean in the way he sounds which I know was far...far different in the English Dub but because he has literally no emotion in his voice. It was the first thing I noticed about him i this episode and there's literally almost no emotion in the way he speaks.

When he almost hits Goku, he just lets out a very monotone "Ahhhh..." or when he's yelling at Goku with clear sweat flying everywhere, he sounds so emotionless.

So yeah at this point, I think we can safely say this is taking more inspiration from the actual anime than the manga. So now we have a "Super Canon" which focuses more on the anime.

Joji Yanami is VERY old, and was supposed to have retired before Super to my knowledge.

Well it shows and it makes me worried as well because it says to me that they're willing to use outdated actors instead of getting newer ones who can properly emote the scenes. I'm sure Joji Yanami was once or even still is a good voice actor depending on the role but his performance here was lacking so much. I even went over to check out one of his earlier scenes (specifically when Goku teleports Cell to his planet) and wow the difference is astronomical. There's more oomph in his voice and he's able to emote so much better.

Typical from someone 20 years younger.

Nothing wrong with the flashback quality of the old Z/Kai, it wasn't really a big issue. Sure they could've reanimated the scene, but I doubt LOTS of people were upset with it. Also there's nothing particularly wrong with Gregory being in Super, he's just a character and if I remember right didn't Akira create him for the anime or something?

I agree with you about Northern Kaio being bland during that episode.
